Land Plus was retained as primary design coordinator and project visionary for Noah's Ark, a unique foster care community located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The purpose of the project was to create a non-institutional based foster care community that offered security and stability, unlike traditional foster care facilities. The project requirements included 14 five-bedroom homes with front porches and detached garages; a community lodge to serve the Noah's Ark and surrounding community; a multi-denominational chapel; an administrative center; and a barn complex. To develop the plan, Land Plus led a series of charette-based meetings, working with a diverse team including the original landowner, the Executive Director, the project attorney, the builder/developer, a conservationist and a civil engineer. The resulting plan achieved the feel of a small town of traditionally built neighborhoods surrounded by existing residential neighborhoods, a pristine wetland area, and an undeveloped piece of land that also supported a major wetland area. Noah's Ark features community elements including public playgrounds, a large town-green with bandstand and gathering lawns, wetland interpretive trails, tree-lined streets, garden plots and orchards.
